A New Voice

Friday night we had a new voice at our CR meeting. We’ve been training up a man to help share the load on the leadership team. Over the past year he has been steadily stepping into more and more roles. Friday night was his turn to step up to the microphone (am I the only one who just heard News Boys in their head?!?) and teach the lesson.

He’s been a bit nervous about it. I worked with him to take notes from Pastor John’s Leader’s Guide. He looked at the verses and examples and together we shaped the lesson into something that was a good reflection of himself. After a couple of run throughs we were finally to the point where it was time to get up in front of the Friday night meeting and teach.

As he climbed the steps I could see his nervousness. I knew he was ready. I think that he knew he was ready as well. As he spoke the nerves just left him. My guess is that his body didn’t have enough room for nerves and the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit won the night! He did a great job. In his last practice, he had come up a bit short in terms of timing. Not on Friday. He was perfect.

All of the things that he had worried about turned out to be a bunch of hooey. It was a proud moment for me to see him overcome his doubt and do a great job. We evn went out to Denny’s afterward to celebrate. Passing the torch to the next generation of people in recovery is a great way to…

–Rise Up!!
