Yesterday I had the privilege of having one of my guys from our Prison Fellowship group be chosen to speak at the prison church service. I think this is particularly cool because of who it was that spoke. When I first met JP he was a bit “prisony”. That isn’t to say that he seemed super bad or shady. He wasn’t intimidating or “hard” or anything like that. It’s just that he had an air about him. It was the air of a con man or a huckster. Of all the things that he was, there was one thing that he wasn’t: humble.
Last night he was humble. He was honored to be the one chosen to deliver the message. JP is the grandson of a preacher, yet he had walked away from his faith. Now he is discovering he calling and it is beautiful to watch. Over the past year we have seen him transform. It might seem a bit off to say that a self confident man that has turned into a man who expresses a bit of self-doubt is a good change. But I recall the Beatitude that says, “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.” By accepting his meekness JP is definitely a man who will…
