I’ve been in the #RoseCity this past week. I came up to spend time with friends and #ForeverFamily, but also decided to take in a little bit of #NWSL soccer. My team is the Portland #Thorns, so I was glad to get a chance to see the team live. From the first time I saw her play on TV I have been a big fan of #TobinHeath. She really handles the ball better than anyone I’ve ever seen. Ever time I am able to see a Thorns game I get excited to watch her in person. So far, she has not played in every game I’ve attended.
Before the game, my friend’s son told me that he knew a place to go to wait for the players to leave the stadium. I was game. We grabbed a sharpie and I played out meeting my favorite player in my mind all afternoon. When game time arrived, I noticed that Heath wasn’t in uniform that night. I was bummed. My plans were not working out the way I had designed them hours before!
We decided to wait around after the game anyhow, and low and behold, I was able to meet another player that I greatly admire – Christine Sinclair.
She is the leading goal scorer for Canada and only Abby Wambach has scored more international goals in history. She’s quite a player. My disappointment turned to joy as I realized what was happening. I had let my own small vision cloud the blessings that were there. It seems so simple, but how often do I do this each day? What blessings am I letting go because I am too focused on my own limited plan? I need to take time to notice the world around me and be happy for it. I can probably see so stars as I…
