Overtime!

This week was a big football weekend here in the States as the two finalists for the Super Bowl were decided. A large portion of my circle of friends are fans of the Denver Broncos, so I was cheering by association with them. But if you really know me, you know that hockey is my game, so I recorded the Kings vs. Sharks game and watched it last night when I got home from a meeting for church.

I realize that many of you may not be hockey fans (I forgive you and it’s not too late). Let me just let you know that this is a big rivalry game. We are the team they love to hate and vice-versa. You can probably imagine my dismay as I watched the clock dwindle down from 10 minutes to 9 to 8…still one goal behind. Then there’s the moment when it goes under a minute and the clocks go super fast…ugh.

Then my miracle happened and we scored with 13 seconds left and sent the game into overtime! There I was doing a silent Snoopy dance in my living room so that I didn’t wake my wife. I – WAS – HAPPY!!! Overtime was our chance at redemption – a fresh start and we were gonna take it!

That’s the way my recovery works too. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life. I’ve let in some goals that shouldn’t have happened and I’ve watched people skate past me as I lay on the ice. But Jesus is my overtime. Jesus scores the tying goal for me every time I need it and He’ll do it for you too.

-Rise Up!
