What a Difference a Dot Makes

I was trying to email someone this morning. I have never met them, but a mutual acquaintance gave me their information. I sat down and composed an introductory email, you know, just sort of setting the stage to let them know how I thought we might be able to do some work together in the prison.

Shortly after I sent the email I got a response. I was impressed. Then I found out it was the dreaded “Undeliverable” email. I had the address wrong in some unknown way. The biggest problem is that our mutual acquaintance is an inmate, so I can’t easily get the correct information to re-send the message.

I decided to try again, but this time I put a dot between the first and last name of the recipient. Sure enough, that did the trick. Not immediate rejection response! How often in my recovery do I mess a small detail? How frequently do I skip over something that “shouldn’t” matter, yet still does? It’s a good reminder to stay focused, even on the little things, in order to…
