The Waiting Game

Saturday Mrs. Blogs and I played the waiting game. We had the time and location of our Saturday class in prison changed just a day and a half prior and we had no way of letting the fellas know. The result was that several of them stood in 40 degree weather outside the education building for a while then gave up. By the time we got there three hours after our original start time we had very little recourse other than to sit and wait. So that’s what we did.

We let the custody staff know that we were there and they told us they would make the announcement. Then we stood outside the class trying to be seen by anyone who might be out on the exercise yard. After an hour they had shift change, which meant everyone went back to their housing units for about an hour. With the next shift we made a new request for an announcement. Then we waited some more.

It is interesting being on the inside. I get used to passing time with a device in my hands. No devices allowed inside. It was me, Mrs. MoM, and a quiet room. At first it was strange. Especially since we had no idea if the men had heard the announcement and if so, if they were allowed back out on the yard. Hard to know how to pace the wait. But it was a great learning opportunity. I had to get back in touch with just being still. Bev and I had a chance to just talk and enjoy each other’s company. I even read part of a book to her.

Finally, after almost two hours of waiting the first of the men showed up, then several more followed. We had a great time in class, regardless of the kerfuffles. Sometimes I need to relax in order to…

–Rise Up!!
