Surprise!

Last week your MoM went to see The Who on their “The Song is Over” North American Farewell Tour. I had never seen this particular band but wanted to. Once their bass player passed it felt a bit hollow, so I had demurred at previous opportunities. With both of the remaining guys being octogenarians I decided that the time was right.

When I go to see one of the luminaries of rock history I don’t pay much attention to the opening act. The act on Wednesday was the Joe Perry Project. For those who don’t know, he is the lead guitarist from Aerosmith. Playing along side him was Brad Whitford, the other guitarist from Aerosmith. They were rounded out as a band by the singer from Black Crowes, the bassist from Stone Temple Pilots, and the drummer from Smash Mouth. A pretty solid line up. They did their thing and played some tunes from each member’s band. They were joined for one song by Slash. Pretty cool.

At the end of the show we were treated to yet another special guest: Steven Tyler came out and they ripped through Train Kept A-Rollin’ and Walk this Way. We all expected a great night of classic rock, but seeing what essentially amounted to an Aerosmith reunion was not something that was expected.

Going through our lives always presents opportunities for surprises. Just. Cause you have an expectation of something good, don’t write off the chance for something even better. You’ve got your ticket to the show. Don’t be afraid to sit down, but always be ready to…
