Yesterday was Easter Sunday. I went to church then went out to lunch with my mom. The afternoon was a bit low key, then in the early evening Mrs. MoM and I left to pick up a friend at the airport in the LA area.
I was very excited about the trip because I made some vague plans about getting different food. If you live in a small town you might understand the desire to try different restaurants when you visit the “big city”. Yesterday’s plans included Trejo’s Tacos (never been, but heard good things), Trejo’s Donuts (been once, want more!), and In-N-Out Burger (love). I did my research and found out that Machete closes his donut shop at 4pm and the taco joint shuts its doors at 4:01. Not sure why they give an extra minute for the tacos, but who am I to argue with the great Danny Trejo, right?!?
Since we were leaving town at 3 I knew that the first two elements of my gastronomic adventure were a wash from the start. Still, a Double Meat Animal Style burger was in my future after we picked up my buddy at the airport. No worries.
No worries until I rolled up to In-N-Out and saw no line and no lights! I completely forgot that they are closed on Easter Sunday. Gaaaaaa!
Recover is not like life. Recovery is life. We don’t stay successful in either if we separate them. There will be disappointments. There will be changes in plans. We will need to adjust our goals and desires to fit reality. If the restaurant is closed, I ain’t gonna eat there no matter how bad I want it.
So last night I had no donut. I had no taco. I saw no Machete. There was no Animal Style for your MoM. But we still had a great time. We laughed. We got a different burger. I got some chocolate covered almonds from Trader Joe’s to satisfy my sweet tooth. Things were just fine. All I had to do was accept things as they were in order to…
—Rise Up!!
