VAR

In watching the football this weekend I was once again left scratching my head at the decisions of the officials. Before you start in on me whining about a call against my team, let me just say that I was rooting against the team that was wronged. A player on one team came crashing in with the studs of his cleats in the air and crashed into the other man’s shin. This is one of the basic rules of soccer: you can’t go in with studs up. It is one of the points of differentiation between a yellow and a red card. Not only did the on field ref get it wrong, but the video assistant ref (VAR) also watched it and let it pass. It was a complete travesty.

In recovery we can live life without regard for the rules. We all can accept that when things go at full speed it can be easy to miss some things. That’s why we have sponsors and accountability partners. They are in place to catch the things that we so often miss. So if your sponsor tells you to go check the video replay, don’t be offended. Go over and take a look. Perhaps it really was nothing, but more often than not, there’s an opportunity to do a little 10th Step action and make an amends. Check things out, make things right, and…

–Rise Up!!
