Yesterday was a l-o-n-g day for my mother and my youngest daughter’s family. They had just finished a Disney cruise together and were set to fly back to the West Coast from Orlando. They were going to different destinations, but everyone had a similar flight time. My girl got tickets with an early departure so that they would have time to make the 6 hour drive home from the airport in Portland. That meant an early flight for my mom as well. All in all, it was a decent plan.

You probably picked up on that deadly world “plan”. They got to the airport two hours early, but being on the first flights of the day, so did hundreds of other people. It took over an hour to get their bags checked, then TSA lines were staggering. The end result was that everyone missed their flights.

By the time my Mom landed at LAX for her 9:15am scheduled arrival, it was 6:30pm. That’s a long day!

However, everyone made the situation the best that they could. With the extra time in my day, I was able to accept an invitation to go golfing. My wife got together with our oldest daughter for the day, and my mom got to talk to scads of people (which is her favorite thing).
