Pudding

They say the proof is in the pudding. Don’t get me wrong, I love pudding and I love proof, but this isn’t a Reece’s peanut butter cup kind of thing where you blend them and get great results. But I digress…
This past week my first author’s proof arrived at my house. An author’s proof is a first printing of a book that allows the author to inspect everything as it will be once the book goes to press. It’s pretty exciting. I don’t order a proof until I am pretty certain that everything is on track for success with the book. No sense in wasting money and paper on something that still needs work.

Yet when the book arrived I found mistakes. I had some misspellings on the back cover. The art work was slightly off center. I had inadvertently switched from 1.5 line spacing to 1.15 after Chapter 2. Who does that, right?!? People do.

It happens in recovery as well. We think that we are doing just great. We might even be “print ready”. Then we see the “proof” and we find out that there is a decision to make. We can choose to stay in denial and claim that everything is great, or we can face reality and make the necessary changes. It’s up to us if we want to…
