One thing that you can count on with your MoM is that he is cheap! I love when I walk down the sidewalk or across the parking lot and I find a coin. It doesn’t matter the denomination, if I see money on the ground I’ll pick it up. Yes, even pennies.
I recently saw an article in the McPaper (USA Today) that said an estimated $68 million in coins are thrown away each year in the Untied States. That’s a lot of jingle down the drain! So I’m doing my part to keep that number down.
I had a conversation with my daughter the other day. I had stopped to get a burger at In-N-Out and sent a picture to her husband to gloat (I had it and he didn’t). On my way to my car I found a penny and let her know. I asked her what was the smallest amount of money she would bother to pick up. She said “Maybe a dollar.” I’m sorry, what?!? You’re too fancy for a quarter? She said that she didn’t like to touch money because it’s dirty. Isn’t that what sanitizer is for? That’s free money sitting there on the ground. Pick it up, wash it off if it makes you feel better, and spend it.
That’s kind of the way it works in recovery though. We have people around us willing to help. It costs us nothing and we actually benefit from it, but we get too precious about ourselves to accept the help. It just makes no cents (pun intended).
We could always use a little help. Even if things are going great, taking the assistance gives that person a benefit from getting to help you. Get over yourself. Next time you see a penny on the ground, bend over and you will…
–Rise Up!!
