I’m at my daughter’s house helping with some home improvement projects. A few years back they bought an 80 year old house that needed lots of work. Back then we put in new floors and painted most of the house, but as things tend to go, once they moved in the projects got put on hold.
They’ve been living with projects that are in what you might label as a semi-finished state. They also have 3 kids under the age of 5 so a bit of “life” has happened. My projects have included installing a hood vent over the stove (and cutting through the exterior wall to put in the ducting for the vent), replacing various baseboards around the house, and finally putting in the rest of the toe kicks on the kitchen cabinets.
The toe kicks seemed straight forward enough, but the cabinets weren’t quite high enough so I had to trim them. Then trim them again. Then again. It was tough getting them “just right”. I felt a bit like Goldilocks because it took a few tries to find the “just right” areas of the projects.
Now I’m sitting at the dining room table looking at our handiwork. It feels good to finally not be able to see under the cabinets we put in 2 years ago.
Sometimes our recovery doesn’t go according to plan. Sometimes we have to adjust as we go. But if we keep working and improving a little at a time we can look back and see how we were able to —
Rise Up!!
