If you know your MoM, you probably know that I have an affinity for bow ties. It all started several years ago when a customer at Starbucks brought me a simple black bow tie back from a trip overseas. I decided to start blending them into my daily tie routine and eventually, they took over as my daily neck wear. They added to my “interesting” look: goatee, old school 1960’s engineer glasses, and now a bow tie. I was all in.
Recently I was introduced to another person who shared my love for bow ties. This guys goes even so far as to use Bowtie as his official moniker on his business cards at work! That’s great. Of course, when people noticed him visiting our church they immediately connected us. People notice when you stand out and people tend to gravitate to people they have something in common with. It was natural.
The recovery message here is that people will connect you with like minded people. That’s why it is so imporant to be known for the right things. It’s great when people know that I am an Arsenal fan and the put me together with other football fans. It’s no bueno when people know that you are the guy who is known to be looking for a “connect”.
What is it that people know you for? Are you the stoner in the corner or the Jesus Freak on the corner? Find something worthwhile and…
–Rise Up!!
