Let it Go

No, not Elsa, or Ariel, or Anna, or whichever Disney princess sings that song. I’m thinking about something different here.

As I sat down at Starbucks this morning I heard a song that I was not familiar with. It had sort of a “dance” vibe without being overtly techno. Of course, your MoM is on the downhill side of life, so a lot of modern music sounds like that to me. Anyhow, the repeated lyric that I could discern was “I’ve told you once, I’ve told you twice, let it go.”

Good song? Meh. Good advice? For sure!

Every Sunday after church I have lunch with my mother (your grand MoM?). She tends to follow the opposite advice and just clings to stuff. Yesterday we heard her trying to re-litigate issues in her life from as far back as the 1930’s.

Let it go!

I’m not advocating a life of denial, just process things through a 4th Step and look at that last column to see what your responsibility in it all was, then…

You guessed it…

Let it go!

Those past hurts, hang-ups, and habits just weigh us down. Today can be heavy enough without letting yesterday weigh you down. Let it go and…

–Rise Up!!
